Art Vending Machines Australia (AVMA) has launched its first Adelaide Art Vending Machine at the Art Gallery of South Australia (AGSA). Curated by AVMA creator Steph Cibich, 'the Adelaide Art Vending Machine' is the first instalment of Adelaide’s latest public art initiative, featuring new work by emerging local artist Carly Snoswell available for purchase. AVMA's invite artists to ‘take-over’ a recycled vending machine, responding to its location and contemporary ideas, whilst pushing the boundaries of their arts practice. They offer the public an opportunity to engage with and purchase works of art. Steph Cibich says ‘AVMA strives to connect audiences by offering unexpected and interesting experiences. Each time a machine finds a new temporary home it will take on another life!’ Snoswell’s work examines textiles and DIY craft-making as a devotional impulse fuelled by fandom. These works are informed by Japanese Amigurumi crochet patterns and 90’s Nintendo gaming characters and include DIY kits for audiences to create their own whacky character. AVMA’s first iteration of the Adelaide Art Vending Machine is supported by City of Adelaide through their Public Art Grant Program.
